Care For Your Body: 4 Easy Hacks to Stay Motivated to Keep Active

Updated: Aug 23, 2018

Just get started

Tell yourself all you have to do is a warm up. Just do 10 mins, then you're free to go. Most likely you'll end up feeling like its a total waste of time if you quit after such a short time and turn it into a regular workout. If you are still not feeling it after 10 mins and decide to quit then hey, at least you got 10 mins in!

Track your success

Keeping track of your progress in a place where you can go back and look at numbers to see how far you've come can be very beneficial. Everybody goes through slumps where they feel like they've plateaued but having everything written down gives you actual evidence of how far you've come. Places like Bodybuilding.com's BodySpace and Fitocracy, and MyFitnessPal give you a place where you can keep track of your workouts and gain support from other people on the same path as you. Fitocracy even gives you points when you work out so you can level up in real life like you would in a video game! But keeping a paper journal is just as valuable if you aren't as tech savy.

Pay attention to the right voice in your head

When you're in the middle of an intense workout you may think to yourself “This is so hard I just have to stop and take a break!” behind that voice is another one, one saying “You've got this! You can do one more rep! If regular people can lift cars off babies I can certainly push these 10 pounds one or 2 more times!” Often times the “quit” voice is so loud you can't here the one telling you to keep going. When “quit” shows up just say “I hear you, thank you for your input” Then say out loud “I've got this!” over time the thought that you can't do something fades away until you just hear an amazingly supportive voice in your head.

Make a plan and stick to it

You can find a workout routine online or make your own. Then once you get going, keep going until you've done everything you planned on doing. Don't quit when you're tired, quit when you're done. Like Mohammad Ali said, “I don’t count my sit-ups. I only start counting when it starts hurting. That’s when I start counting, because that’s when it really counts. That's what makes you a champion.” Making that simple shift in your mindset can make or break a workout. Make sure you're challenging yourself and you aren't selling yourself short.

Enlisting the help of a friend, family member or coach can be an invaluable tool to help keep you on track. Be sure to choose someone who is willing to hold you accountable and won't back down if you start to push back.
